Recently, The Suprene court of India directed the Central Government to enact a law that made registration of marriage compulsory, and this advise has some active merit consideration by the Centre for an official record of the marriage will be of immense value - like registration of marriages can curb the child marriages effectively. An official record of marriages, along with Affidavits by both the parties and mediators of the marriage alliane with the signatures enough witnesses stating that 'No Dowry' is present in this alliance, can help the curbing the violations of law in areas of marriages, divorce, dowry related violence, and protection of rights of both wife and children. The offence of bigamy can be affectely tackled. This was suggestion made by National Commission for Women in 1994, and endorsed by National Population Policy in 2000, and now acknowledged by the Supreme Court of India. These kind of registration of marriages along with Affidavits are the effective guarantee of women securing their rights to inheritance and maintenance in case of divorce or death of her husband. The problem in India is, most of the marriages are traditional and have not been registered. That's why there are more complicated legal problems, as women has naturally at the disadvantageous position. If their marriage is registered, the law can deliver gender justice. Civilian and citizen must be law abiding. Don't you agree?
