HCA had entered into an agreement with the Visakha Group to name the stadium Visakha and had even paid Rs.43 million out of Rs.65 million for the purpose. Incidentally, HCA president and minister Vinod is the promoter of this company.
After the Congress party came to power in the state last year efforts were made to rename it after the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. The government succeeded in making the company agree to the renaming and also not insisting on compensation.
While the stadium has been named after Rajiv Gandhi, the stands still have huge signboards of Visakha industries.
All 12,000 odd tickets put up for sale to the public were sold out in a couple of hours Sunday, leaving thousands of cricket fans disappointed. Yadav said the remaining tickets were either complimentary or sold to corporates.
HCA has insured the match for Rs.40 million with National Insurance Company Limited against all risks and public liability.
