Former minister Jakkampudi dies Rajahmundry, October 9: Former Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao (57) died in Bollineni Hospital, with illness here today evening. Rammohan Rao was suffering from Diabetic Neuropathi disease since 2007. He took treatment in USA and other places in the country but in vain. He is a staunch supporter of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and sailed with him until his last breath.
Jakkampudi joined YSR Congress Party, after YS Jaganmohan Reddy floated the party. He was elected MLA from Kadiyam assembly constituency on Congress ticket during 1989, 1999 and 2004 assembly elections and was defeated in 1994 elections. In 2009 assembly elections Congress party ticket was given to his wife Jakkampudi Vijaya Lakshmi, due to Rammohan Rao's illness.
Rammohan Rao worked as Roads and Buildings and Excise Minister during Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure. He took charge as minister on May 26, 2004 in YSR Cabinet. He worked as District Congress Committeee president for a period of nine years from 2001 and worked to strengthen the party in the district.
Rammohan Rao was born on August 6, 1953 to Sitaratnam and Peda Verraiah in Adurru village of Razole mandal. He has his primary education in Tatipaka village, high school education in Danavaipeta municipal school, graduation in VT College at Rajahmundry.
Jakkampudi was survived by wife Jakkampudi Vijaya Lakshmi, two sons and one daughter.
