Elections to Municipalities by May end Hyderabad, Jan 27 (INN): Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister M Mahidhar Reddy on Friday reiterated that the government was committed to conduct elections for the local bodies by May-end.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the State Secretariat, Mahidhar Reddy said that except six to seven municipalities, the government was ready to conduct elections for all other municipalities by May-end.
Stating that the Election Commission would conduct elections based on the Census of 2001, he admitted that the issue was delayed due to the issue of reservation for BCs in the newly-formed municipalities.
Apart from 42 municipalities in the state, he said the government would also announce three new municipalities soon. He said the government would announce reservation percentage for Backward Class sections based on their population in the state.
The census of castes would be completed within 45 days in each municipality, he said.
