Vijayamma faulted for holding Bible in public meetings Vijayawada: The Telugu Desam leaders here on Tuesday had a dig at the YSR Congress honorary president, Y S Vijayamma for holding Bible while addressing public meetings.
Speaking to the media, the TD MLC YVB Rajendra Prasad, party Krishna district president and MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao found fault with Vijayamma carrying Bible for political meetings and said that the leaders were mixing religion with politics.
They also said that by carrying Bible, the YSR Congress leaders were bringing down the respect that the Holy Book commands.
Quoting from the Bible, the MLC said that the YSR family members have amassed wealth and were indulging in politics against the 10 Commandments.
He said that the TD had never criticised Vijayamma, Sharmila and Anil Kumar until they began using religion for politics. He alleged that these leaders were using the religious platform for political mileage.
He further said that the YSR Congress leaders were making political campaign in the day time and religious promotion during night while the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders indulge in religious activities at night and speak politics in the day time.
He said the two parties were trying to gain political mileage using religion.
Rajendra Prasad also blamed the YSR Congress leader M Nagarjuna for filing a case against him in Nuzvid for his comments on Vijayamma.
He said he had never insulted the Bible but only commented on the intentions of Vijayamma carrying Bible for political meetings.
He dared the YSR Congress leaders to come for an open debate on the use of Bible at political meetings.
Devineni Umamaheswara Rao justified Rajendra Prasad's remarks and said that YSR family members were using religion for their political gains.
He asked YS Sharmila to prove whether the corruption of her brother Jaganmohan Reddy was justified by Bible.
He sought to advise Sharmila to educate her brother and hand over the illegal wealth of Jaganmohan Reddy to government to prove their religious faith.
The TD MLA Tangirala Prabhakara Rao and former MLA Nallagatla Swamidas, who were also present at the news conference, blamed Vijayamma, Sharmila and Anil Kumar for using Bible and religious sentiments of the people for their political gains.
