It was around 6:00 in the morning when I got down at Tirupati, right in front of Mayura. Gently knocked on the door of room # 110 and heard a voice from inside “Is that Malakpet?”
“Wow”, I thought “Either this guy is desperately waiting for me or he has some ESP”. He opened the door and shook my hands. “Hi Srini” I too responded to that spectacled cute gentleman and found 3 more people inside. One was a very familiar cute and a pleasant face - the effervescent Batasari’s - and two more young and smart guys. “Take a guess Malak!” they smiled “tell us who we are”. “Mokka and Raj?” I asked. They said “Guessed it right but itz Raj and Mokka, not the other way”.
“Think this guy never looked at any of the profiles” I could hear a chuckle from Srinivas, before two other cute looking gentlemen walked in. “Helloooo Bhaskar, Hi Vinayakam saaru” it didn’t take much time for me to identify him for, I already met Bhaskar before. Took a few photographs there, got ready, had breakfast and we all moved towards kapila teertham. After a brief darshan there we reached Alipiri.
After clicking a couple of whacky fotos around the ladies’ rest room for a change and attending Kiran’s call we started moving up. Though I was the first to climb the first 100 steps ( entayinaa aandhruDini kadaa! Arambha Sooratwam koncham ekkuvE ), I quickly realized I better slowed down or else would face the danger of collapsing. While Bhaskar, Raj and Srini were racing like the missiles that usually take off from the nearby launch pad at Sriharikota, mokka and Bata were kind enough to accompany me. After a few moments Mokka got lil impatient moved lil ahead while we two were walking at our own pace (Not really slow though, we were just 30-45 min behind the fastest). But I’m glad we were slow for we had some fun all the way.
Climbing the first hill was really tough as usual but things were cool after that. The “Palakova” we had on the way pumped us up so much that we were sure there was some Cocaine in that thingie – Batasari stills calls it Co-Kova and Cocaine-Kova. We continued to be rejuvenated until the break we took after the 5th hill, wherein a group of young engineers floored us with their sense of humor. A guy asking the other “ orEy konDa madhyalO Tanel vEstE manaki E paaTlu unDEvi kaavu kadaraa!” and the other guy responding “ Tanel EmiTraa nee bonda! daanTlo paiki elaa veLataavuraa? orEy veeDiki naDichI naDichI mOkaalu debba tindEmO – andukE breyin cheDipoyi ilaa vaagutunnaaDu” was just a small part of the thing. Thanx to Co-Kova we didn’t even stop at Mokati Parvatham before landing at the cottage, extremely flabbergasted. Srini and Bhaskar went out for the tonsure and came back.
We clicked a few fotos with Srini dressed up as a gal - for a guy in the fugacious years of his youth, he looked so cute that even Aishwarya Rai would have turned green with envy and suffered from Ulcer, looking at him ( kaDupu manTa valla mari ). He looked so natural in that costume that even his wife could not recognize him at the first sight of his fotograph. If I have to mention something more about Srinivas, I would have to type so much that my fingertips would go numb. With his never ending enthusiasm he would make even a DNA expert believe that hez 20+. With very high expressional skills (Proved once again through his nice article on the TP get-together), he would naturally grab the attention in a group. We were unfortunate to miss Bhaskar in the same pose, he wa too smart and quick to escape from the scene.
