Bank cashier held in fraud Vijayawada, Feb 4 : A cashier in State Bank of India was among six people arrested today in connection with forgery in a demand draft. The accused had drawn Rs 9 lakh from Ibrahimpatnam SBI branch near here, on January 11. Deputy Commissioner of Police M Ravindranath Babu said one of the accused, Muppalla Raju, in connivance with cashier Puli Ratnakar, opened an account in the branch. The accused purchased a demand draft in Hiriyaar Urban Co-operative Bank at Hiriyar in Karnataka for Rs 5000.
The accused, along with other accomplices forged the demand draft hiking the amount to Rs 9 lakh and encashed it on January 11. On detecting the fraud, the Manager of the bank lodged a complaint with the police. The police arrested the accused and recovered Rs one lakh from cashier Ratnakar, Rs 40,000 from Ratna Singh, Rs 40,000 from Srinivasa Reddy, Rs 22,000 from Balaraju and Rs 10,000 from Raju. The accused were produced in the court today, he said. The Deputy Commissioner said bankers were being asked to affix transparent tape on the figures on DDs, so that they cannot not be manipulated.
