Three women die as speeding bus rams into auto Amalapuram, Feb 24 (INN): Three women were crushed to death on the spot when a speeding State Road Transport Corporation bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw behind near Mahipal Cheruvu in Mummidivaram Mandal in East Godavari district on Thursday. According Mummidivaram Sub-Inspector N Kondaiah, the victims have been identified as Gandham Mahalaxmi (35), Vakkapatla Laxmi (65) and her daughter Vakkapatla Manga (25). The mother and daughter hailed from Mummidivaram and Gandham Mahalaxmi was a resident of Ainapuram in the district. The driver of the auto-rickshaw sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
The bodies of victims have been shifted to Government General Hospital in Mummidivaram. The police said the mishap took place when the ill-fated auto-rickshaw was heading towards Amalapuram from Mummidivaram. The speeding bus was heading towards Kakinada from Amalapuram when it knocked the shared auto-rickshaw from behind, crushing the three women passengers. The police have registered a case under section 304 A CrPC (Negligent and rash driving) against bus driver D Veerabhadra Rao.
