34 bags of spent cartridges seized Nellore, April 19 (INN): Police seized 34 bags full of spent gun cartridges from the DRA Steel Factory at Menakur village, Naidupet mandal in Nellore district on Tuesday. According to Sub-Inspector Rosaiah, the spent cartridges were among the scrap material which had been brought to the factory to be melted from the Chennai Port area.
The factory workers had rejected the cartridges because of the difference of metal. The factor authorities then informed the police who rushed to the spot and took possession of the 34 bags.
Sub-Inspector Rosaiah said that preliminary investigations reveal that the spent cartridges may have been imported from some foreign countries along with the scrap metal since some of the bullets are marked with 'Made in USA' inscriptions.
According to sources, the state government has deputed an officer of the rank of a DSP to investigate how the cartridges had made their way to the steel factory.
The sources say that this has been done to make sure that the consignment had not originated from a Maoist dump who may have used the bullets and disposed the spent cartridges as scrap.
