Woman dies in childbirth, relatives protest with body Srikakulam, May 6 (INN): Angry relatives of a woman who died soon after giving birth to a child staged an agitation with her body in front of Palakonda Government hospital on Friday, alleging negligence of duty doctor.
According to Sub-Inspector Prakash, Anitha (25), wife of Gangadhar, had been visiting Dr Bharati attached to the Palakonda Government Hospital, right through her pregnancy. Dr Bharati also runs a private clinic, Sri Sai Clinic, the police said, adding that the deceased was consulting the doctor at both the places.
Late on Thursday night, Anitha started getting labour pains and immediately alerted Dr Bharati. The doctor told her to go to the hospital and said that she would reach there. When the doctor failed to turn up, the duty doctors attended on the victim and referred her to the Visakhapatnam Government Hospital as her health deteriorated.
Immediately Gangadhar shifted his wife to the nearby Srinivas Hospital, where she gave birth to a girl. Anitha died shortly afterwards. On Friday morning, her angry relatives staged an agitation with Anitha's body in front of Palakonda Government Hospital and demanded action against Bharathi. They have also filed a complaint to Hospital Superintendent in this connection. Police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the agitators.
