Farmer in debt kills self, CM orders loan waiver Hyderabad, July 13 (INN): Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday directed his officials to waive off the loans of a farmer and stop the auction of his property by a cooperative bank, following reports of the tiller having committed suicide.
The farmer committed suicide in Dharmavaram of Anantapur district after being unable to bear the tension due to the sudden decision of a cooperative bank to subject to auction his belongings.
Following the auction directive and the resultant suicide by the farmer in the recent past, local Congress MLA Kethireddy Venkatrami Reddy on Wednesday approached the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Wednesday and apprised him of the incident.
The Chief Minister is believed to have reacted and issued orders to the authorities concerned to stop the said auction immediately.
The MLA from Dharmavaram told media persons that Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy had also agreed to waive the personal loans secured by the farmer cited.
The MLA appealed to the farmers not to resort to the extreme step but face the situation boldly to resolve any issues after consulting the public representatives.
In another incident, cases which were booked against 233 weavers in the district during 2004-05 were lifted following the Chief Minister's intervention at the behest of local MLA Venkatram Reddy.
