JUIV demands separate railway zone for Vizag Visakhapatnam, Sept 06 (INN): Jai Uttarandhra Ikya Vedika convener J T Rama Rao announced that the vedika would stage `Chalo New Delhi' agitation on Sept 25 demanding a separate Railway Zone headquartered at Visakhapatnam.
Releasing a poster in this connection at a programme here on Tuesday, Rama Rao said that despite several agitations and representations, the Central Government, especially the Ministry of Railways, has failed to respond to the demand for separate Visakhapatnam Railway Zone. However, he said the agitation would be intensified further if the authorities fail to respond.
Rama Rao alleged that the government and political leaders were undermining the movement, although the activists of different organizations have been conducting dharnas, Rail rook and other public campaigns in the region. He said the 'Chalo New Delhi' was aimed at drawing the attention of national level leaders towards the need for a separate railway zone under Visakhapatnam.
Describing Visakhapatnam as one of the fastest-growing cities in Asia with tremendous economic, IT and industrial activities, Rama Rao said a separate railway zone would increase more connectivity and ensure growth for the entire region.
