AP registers 44% growth in air passengers Amaravati construction, growth in industrial, education, medical fields and various other factors are showing their impact on the air lines industry in Andhra Pradesh. There is a tremendous increase of 44 percent in the number of passengers travelling through flights. Last year 16,91,448 passengers traveled in flights between April and November where as this year the number increased to 24,28,612 for the same period. That is 44 percent growth, where as the national average growth is only 19 percent.
For the first time Visakhapatnam saw more than 15 lakhs passengers boarding the flights. The air traffic from Gannavaram increased by 76 percent and from Tirupati it went up by 43 percent. Even Rajahmundry airport saw a growth of 21 percent in terms of passengers. Kadapa airport which was started this year had around 6544 passengers.
Keeping the growth in mind Government is taking various steps to increase facilities and also carrying out expansion works in air ports.
New air ports are also coming up in Vijayanagaram district Bhogapuram, Nellore district Dhagadurthi and Kurnool district Orvakallu. Cabinet also gave nod for construction of new Green Field air port near Mangalagiri.
