Three Panchaloha idols stolen from ancient temple
Warangal, April 29 (INN): Unidentified persons stole three 'Panchaloha' idols from Venugopal Swamy temple in Nagapuri village, Cherial mandal in Warangal late on Thursday night. The antique idols are believed to be worth more than Rs 30 lakh in the international market.
According to Sub-Inspector Narender Reddy, the thieves made their way into the temple by breaking the lock and fled away with three Panchaloha idols of Lord Krishna, Goddess Satyabhama and Rukmini.
The theft was noticed early on Friday when priest Venkateshwar arrived to perform the morning rituals and found the temple doors open. He subsequently alerted the police, who rushed to spot and collected clues.
Mr Narender Reddy revealed that this Venugopal Swamy temple was about 250-year-old. The temple has been managed by the present priest's ancestors and the responsibility has been passed through generations. Police registered a case and a manhunt has been launched to nab the thieves.
