NTR national award for 2015 goes to Rama Rao Well recognized story author Kalipatnam Rama Rao has been chosen for the prestigious N T Rama Rao National Film Award for 2015. Instituted after the legendary Telugu film star-turned-politician N T Rama Rao, the award carries a cash of Rs five lakh besides a citation.
The award shall be offered to him on NTR Jayanti on May 28 at a particular programme. A letter of appreciation and a money prize of Rs. 5 lakh will likely be given to Rama Rao as a part of the award.
Well recognized to Telugu folks as KARA Mastaru, Kalipatnam Rama was born on Nov 9, 1924 in Srikakulam. A teacher by occupation, Rama Rao was awarded the Kendra Sahitya Academy in 1995 in recognition of his writings. He gained the award for his story 'Yagnam' written in 1966.
Rama Rao's stories reflect the trials, tribulations, and occasionally the triumphs of life among the middle and lower classes of people in society. His first story, "Chitragupta", was a mini-story, written on the back of a postcard. He was not satisfied with his writing and stopped in 1955. After 8 years, he wrote "Teerpu" in 1963.
He wrote many stories in the late 1960s following Teerpu", including "Yagnam", "mahadaaseervacanamu", "veerudu-mahaveerudu", "Adivaram", "Himsa", "No room", "Sneham", "Arthi", "Bhayam", "Santhi", "Chavu", "Jevvana dhara", and "Kutra". After writing "Kutra", he stopped writing.
Andhra Pradesh government gives this award, instituted in 1996 in the name of Telugu film legend and former Chief Minister of the state. NTR National Film Award was first awarded to Akkineni Nageswara Rao and later several prominent personalities like krishna;Ilayaraja;Amitab won this award.
