Tummala blames Congress, TDP for violence Hyderabad, April 29 (INN): Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao has blamed the Congress and Telugu Desam Party for the violent incidents that took place in Khammam Market Yard on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at TRS Legislature Party office on Saturday, Tummala alleged that the Congress and TDP workers pelted stones at the office of Khammam Market Yard and this has been proved in the CCTV footage of the incidents. However, he admitted that a few farmers in Telangana were facing problems and the State Government was aware of it. He said efforts were being made to extend financial support to the affected farmers.
Tummala accused the opposition parties of inciting innocent farmers to violent protests. He said that the Congress party, during its regime, never paid MSP to the farmers. But now it was provoking farmers to hold protests. He said that although the State Government was not empowered to decide the MSP of Chilli or Turmeric, he claimed that the price being paid to Chilli farmers in Telangana was highest in the country.
The minister also condemned TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy for opposing Land Acquisition Bill. He said that the government would not be able to complete several projects if the acquisition bill was delayed. He challenged Congress leaders for an open debate on the issue.
Tummala also condemned Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for stating that that the Central Government does not fix the MSP for chilli. "If the MSPs for various crops are not fixed by the Central Government, then who fixes them? Are they decided by neighbouring Pakistan?" he asked.
He claimed that nearly 70% of chilli has been purchased in Khammam Market Yard. He said nearly 1.6 lakh bags have been purchased since Friday night and the remaining 30,000 bags too were being purchased.
