3 die as lorry plunges into Godavari Rajahmundry, Jan 28 (INN): Three persons were killed on the spot and five other sustained injuries when a lorry plunged into the River Godavar in East Godavari district in the wee hours of Friday. According to the driver, who lost control on his vehicle, jumped into River Godavari near Jonnada bridge in East Godavari on the wee hours of Friday.
According to police Jonnada SI P Venugopal, the victims have been identified as Namadi Dorlaiah (45) and P Venkataramana (27) hailing from Vanapalli in Kothakota mandal and K Veeramshetty (55) a lime merchant from Ravulapalem. The condition of five injured, including driver and cleaner is stated to be out of danger. They are presently undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital in Rajahmundry.
The mishap took place when the lorry driver lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve and careened into the river. The lorry was heading towards Jonnada from Mukteshwaram. Jonnada SI P Venugopal registered a case. Mandapeta Circle Inspector KPTV Ramana Rao is investigating.
