Hyderabad: Centenary Celebrations for Mahavidwan Sribhashya Simhasanadhipathi Shri. U.Ve. Villur Asukavi Sarvabhuoma Srinidhi Swamy (1913-2001) will be held on February 17th at Sri Balaji Venkateswara Temple in Chilkur near Hyderabad. Temple trustee Rangarajan S Chilkur explained about Srinidhi Swamy in a press release.
Srinidhi Swamy is the poet who predicted that Chilkur Temple would be thronged by Devotees in 1971, 42 years ago when Chilkur was just a tiny village by name Deval Venkatapur. He was the only poet to sing Bhadrachala Rama's virtues in Sanskrit. He composed 55 slokas on Bhadrachala Rama.
Swamy was a great Sanskrit Scholar and an instant poet in Sanskrit even as a child. While he was only seven years, he used to compose slokas to the amusement of Saintly scholars. He has composed numerous poetic works displaying his high degree of command over the language and genius. It is amazing to note that the number of slokas composed by the Swamy in his life of 87 years cross the mark of 20,000. He has composed over 4000 slokams just on Gajendra Moksham known as Kunjara Ranjanam.
He strived for the protection of temples system and our ancient culture and composed Sanskrit slokams all his life on various temple deities all over India. He won the President of India award for Sanskrit literature in 1986.
Temples Protection Movement and Samskrutha Bharathi together are celebrating the Centenary of this Illustrious Poet on February 17th at Hyderabad.
Chilkur stuthi was composed when the Swamy was residing at Hyderabad during the 1970s. Swamy regularly enjoyed visiting the Chilkur Balaji temple surrounded by the lake. He was amused by the surroundings and out came the pouring of a poet in the form of Chilukuru sthuthi.
Swamy's composition on Bhadrachala panchashat is a nice outpouring with 'conversational slokas', and alliterations and has brought in front of us Lord Bhadrachala Rama. The uniqueness of this deity and the explanation of why Lord is having his consort Sita on his lap given by Swamy is highly enjoyable.
The work Balaji Vimsati was composed by the Swamy in 1965 during his visit to Tirumala on being invited to give a lecture there.
