Century in big chase opens up Rohit's career JAIPUR: If India were facing a daunting target in Wednesday's second ODI, there was an Indian who had his own battle to fight. Rohit Sharma was entrusted the job of laying the foundation for the team and also had this challenge of establishing himself as an opener.
In a matter of the 43.3 overs his team faced and the 123 balls that he played, Rohit had emerged winner on both counts.
The unbeaten 141 was his third century in 104 games and undoubtedly the most important one of his six-year international career. Not only did he help Shikhar Dhawan in getting India off to a strong start, he made sure that a set batsman remained at one end throughout the chase. It's true that Virat Kohli provided the fireworks, but Rohit played the anchor's role to perfection.
'It is the best innings that I have played because we won the match. There is no fun in hitting a century in a losing cause. Winning is most important and I am happy to be part of this wonderful chase. It is the best chase that I have been associated with. I am happy that I batted through the innings,' said Rohit, who reached the three-figure mark after over three years.
