Youth Symposium held in White House South Asian Youth Symposium at the White House spearheaded by North America Telugu Society was a Thunder success! Close to 200 South Asian youth has gotten the opportunity to be part of a prestigious event. With the support from the White House, NATS leadership, Chapter Coordinators and other volunteers, the conference was elegantly executed by the NATS team.
The conference started with the youth's American National Anthem followed by the introduction by the White House associate director of public engagement office Aditi Hardikar. The event then started with remarks by Swami Chidatmananda followed by the panel discussions on Public service, Career and Leadership development, Bullying and First Lady, Mrs. Obama's Let's move initiative. There was a tremendous participation from the youth in these discussions and received educative information from the panelists like, Jackie Dao- Office of the First Lady, Zaid Hassan-Office of Public Engagement, Ashwain Jain-U.S department of HUD, VirumAiyer-NEC, Parag Mehta-Office of Surgeon general, Sarada Peri-Senior Presidential Speech Writer, Jyothi Jasrasaria-U.S Trade representative, Alice Yao-U.S. Department of education, Kyle Kierman-WH Office of Public Engagement and ended with remarks by Gaurab Bansal-Deputy Cabinet Secretary White House.
The event was followed by lunch and the participants had an opportunity to listen to some more prominent speakers in the historical Indian Treaty room. Shekar Narasimhan-Commissioner, WHAAPI, Ambassador Vinay Thumalapally-Executive Director, Select USA, and NATS president Ravi Achanta Spoke at the lunch. Ravi Achanta announced two NATS initiatives at the White House of 'Ask a Youth Mentor' and 'Youth Scholarship' programs. There was overwhelming response from the youth on these initiatives. To commemorate the conference, NATS also published a souvenir and released at the White house. The day ended with picture session at the Navy steps.
The participants took home a full educative experience and the White House thanked the NATS committee for their tremendous work.
