Anam Viveka retires from electoral politics NELLORE: Announcing his retirement from electoral politics, Congress senior leader and maverick politician Anam Vivekananda Reddy said he would no more be contesting elections.
He, however, made it clear that it is not a complete retirement from politics, but only a decision not to contest elections.
Vivekananda Reddy keeping away from elections means an end to a witty style of campaigning in Nellore, which attracts the voters as well as the media.
Breaking his silence on the issue, the Nellore Rural MLA said he will, however, continue to be in politics.
Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, he said his decision not to contest elections was taken in view of his health condition. 'My health is not permitting me to take active part in elections,' he said.
Vivekananda Reddy recalled that a few years ago, he had announced that he would not contest elections after 60 years of age. 'Now, I have crossed the age and I won't contest the election,' he said.
Vivekananda Reddy said he would confine himself to guiding up and coming politicians, including his sons Chenchu Subba Reddy and Rangamayura Reddy, who are contesting the Assembly and Nellore Municipal Corporation elections.
He requested party workers to participate in the nomination filing of Congress candidates Vakati Narayana Reddy (Nellore Lok Sabha), Anam Vijayakumar Reddy (Nellore Rural), Anam Chenchu Subba Reddy (Nellore City) and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy (Atmakur) between April 16 and 19.
