JV Ramudu appointed Andhra Pradesh DGP HYDERABAD: A 1981 batch IPS officer, Jasti Venkata Ramudu was appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Andhra Pradesh by the AP government on Wednesday. Minutes after the government issued the orders, Ramudu took over the charge at his office.
Ramudu is currently officiating as the in-charge DGP of AP after Chandrababu Naidu became the Chief Minister. Ramudu is actually supposed to retire on July 31 on attaining the age of superannuation.
The government overlooked at least nine IPS officers senior to Ramudu in appointing him as the DGP. The government, however, played it safe by getting Ramudu's name picked by the UPSC from a panel of seven names.
UPSC's empanelment committee shortlisted three names, including that of Ramudu, for the DGP's post. The appointment came at a time when the cadre allotment of All-India Services officers remained incomplete. A case is also pending before the Central Administrative Tribunal over the appointment of DGP (in charge) for AP and Telangana. Ramudu will hold the DGP post for two years.
