Citizen cards to curb corruption: KCR Hyderabad: Telangana State government is contemplating to provide multipurpose household Telangana Citizen Cards to the people to avail the benefits of the welfare and other schemes.
The cards are meant to weed out corruption in the welfare schemes being taken up by the government and to provide the benefits only to the eligible, revealed Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao during a review meeting with officials on Thursday.
KCR further directed the officials to conduct a comprehensive survey on the social status of the people in villages to serve the real beneficiaries with government schemes.
In the review being held at Andhra Pradesh Academy of Rural Development on implementation of government schemes, KCR said that for making the schemes free of corruption and transparent, wide publicity and participation of people was needed. He said that distribution of ration cards would be taken up in August.
KCR further opined that large scale corruption has taken place in housing, pensions, ration card distribution and the real beneficiaries were at loss and said, 'such practices should not be allowed in Telangana.'
He made it clear that there was need to determine who were really poor, what their status was and what sort of help they need. He said that in view of this, survey should be conducted in August.
The CM said that an amount of Rs 50,000 being given by the government under Kalyana Laxmi scheme would go directly to the beneficiary and added that same should be followed in all the schemes.
He said that 80 per cent of the people in Telangana belong to weaker sections and all schemes should improve their living standards. He also said that comprehensive information of the people who need help of the government was not available with the government and the survey was ordered to fill this void.
'Everyone should give their information on their own and they must change their own fate,' he said. The officials were ordered to go to each house and gather the information and give multipurpose house hold cards like in developed countries. He made it clear that in Telangana no irregularities would take place and no bogus beneficiaries would be there.
