Panel suggests VGTM for AP Capital Hyderabad, July 26: Sivarama Krishnan committee formed by the Central government to study and suggest various options for setting up state capital of Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, called on chief minister Chandrababu Naidu here.
The committee gave a power point presentation to Chandrababu regarding their findings on various options for setting up the state capital. The committee reportedly told Chandrababu Naidu that the state capital can be built in the VGTM area (Vijaywada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri area) but at the same time expressed the weak-link of non availability of surplus government and forest lands in the area.
The committee is all set to submit its report by the end of August, according to sources. The committee had toured various places in all the 13 districts of the Andhra Pradesh and had studied the factors needed to make a good capital.
The committee recently took Andhra Pradesh government's opinion too in this aspect. It is said that the Municipality and Urban Development Minister P.Narayana has informed the committee that the government is in favour of setting up the capital between Vijayawada and Guntur as the place will be equidistant from all the districts of the state. Also, there are enough water resources available there to cater the needs of the capital.
