Godavari on spate at Bhadradri BHADRACHALAM: Water levels in the Godavari are increasing considerably due to heavy rains in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states. The level here touched the 39-ft mark by Saturday evening. It is just 4 ft less than the danger level.
As the water flow has been increasing at considerable pace in the past three days, Central Water Commission officials said the water level may reach the 43-ft mark by Sunday afternoon and the first warning may be issued after that. The water level, which was at 31 ft on Thursday evening, rose to 35 ft on Friday and 39 ft on Saturday.
As there was heavy flow into Godavari from its tributaries Pranahita, Indravati and Taliperu, the water level has increased considerably in the past three days.
Due to the heavy flow the Godavari backwater flooded the Hyderabad-Jagdalpur highway and agricultural fields in Bhadrachalam. Due to the Godavari backwater the Cheekupalli Vagu (stream) in Wajedu mandal and Kongala Vagu are overflowing, cutting off road link to about 55 villages.
