Agriculture University may be set up at Lam Farm GUNTUR: Agriculture minister Prathipati Pulla Rao has said that about 900 acres land is available in the vicinity of Lam farm in the district for the establishment of a state agricultural university, and added that the Union government had already allotted `50 crore for the university.
Addressing the media after inspecting the lands in Lam farm, the minister said that it was an ideal place for the university as it was centrally located in the state, and added that 782 acres of land was available in and around the Lam farm with an additional 128 acres near Amaravati.
The minister added that the university will have all agricultural research departments and that imparting the latest farming technology to farmers was the government's objective. Pulla Rao said that seeds and fertilisers were ready for distribution.
Guntur MP Galla Jayadev said that the government was planning to build the capital on the lines of Chhattisgarh's capital New Raipur and that they were examining the model cities across the world. Tadikonda MLA T Sravan Kumar said farmers' welfare was the government's main objective and that they were planning various welfare schemes for the farmers.
Pedakurapadu MLA K Sridhar, district collector Kantilal Dande, ZP vice-chairman Purnachandra Rao, Tadikonda in-charge revenue divisional officer (RDO) Murali, Lam farm Associate director of Research Eedara Narayana, Guntur and Tadikonda tahsildars Mohan Rao and Venkateswarlu, Tadikonda mandal parishad development officer Vasantha Lakshmi and others accompanied the minister.
