GHMC gets HC order on N-convention centre HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderbad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finally received orders relating to the Nagarjuna-owned N-convention centre from the High Court.
The GHMC has referred the same (HC order) to the additional advocate general for his opinion. After he gives his opinion, which is expected in a day or two, the corporation will proceed with necessary action, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said.
The commissioner said the High Court, in its orders, had directed the corporation to take action against the convention centre while following due procedures of law.
A copy of the order was received two days ago, he added. The N-convention centre was found to be built on lands encroaching the Full Tank Level (FTL) and the buffer zone of the Tammidi Kunta lake near Hi-Tech city.
GHMC officials said the corporation will issue notices to illegal structures as per norms before taking any action to prevent any impression that it was demolishing buildings in haste.
It maybe recalled that joint teams comprising revenue, irrigation and the GHMC officials recently carried out the FTL survey of Tammidi Kunta and found that 3.3 acres of the centre was built on illegal lands.
While two acres fall in the buffer zone, another 1.3 acres of illegal land falls in the FTL level of the lake. The centre is spread across 6.9 acres.
Worried that the corporation would raze the unauthorised portions of the centre, its owner Nagarjuna Akkineni has started removing unauthorised structures within the FTL and the buffer zone of the lake by hiring a few dozen workers.
The brand new convention centre has three function halls with state-of-the-art infrastructure. It has been a venue for many official and social events. The centre is hired for high profile functions of politicians and cine stars.
