Medical colleges for Vizianagaram, WG dists VIZIANAGARAM: 'Since all the 11 districts, except Vizianagaram and West Godavari, in Andhra Pradesh have medical colleges, the government has decided to set up a medical college each in the two districts.
The colleges would be operational from the next academic year and `30 crore would be released for each college to kick start the works, during the first phase,' rural development and housing minister K Mrunalini said.
The minister visited the government hospital here Thursday and inspected land availability and other issues for establishing the medical college, which requires setting up a 550-bedded hospital and 25 acres of land.
The Maharaja Government Central Hospital has land and other facilities to set up a college, she said. 'Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had announced the same earlier and during his recent visit, municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana also reiterated to release funds,' Mrunalini said. MLAs P Narayana Swami, M Geetha and KA Naidu, and DMHO U Swarajya Lakshmi were present.
