TS to ink 'power' pact with Chattisgarh HYDERABAD: Chhattisgarh and Telangana are likely to enter into 15-year power deal under which the former will initially sell 1000 MW electricity to the newly-carved State. A top official in the energy department of Chhattisgarh government informed that the deal was in advanced stage and likely to be clinched in August.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao gave green signal to the officials of the Transmission Corporation of Telangana and Electricity Department to go ahead with the signing of MoU with government of Chhattisgarh.
It is learnt that the power purchase agreement (PPA) might be signed in the presence of Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh and Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao at Raipur. With no transmission corridor, initially the power transmission will be done from Nagpur-Ramagundam transmission line as a makeshift arrangement.
To lay a new transmission corridor, the two states have already sought help from the Centre on which Union minister of state for power Piyush Goyal might soon hold talks with representatives of the two sides.
The two states reached for the long-term agreement during the talks held at Raipur on Wednesday night. During talks, Telangana was represented by its principal secretary energy S K Joshi, Transco CMD Syed Ali Murtaza Rizvi and others while Chhattisgarh was represented by CSPDCL MD Subodh Singh, CSPHCL MD Anup Kumar Garg and CSPTC MD Vijay Singh.
The two sides agreed that the power price would be fixed by Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission. According to information, Chhattisgarh will sell electricity from July to February (total eight months) during rainy and winter seasons every year.
During summer, Telangana would have to make alternate arrangement. The Chhattisgarh officials of power transmission company told that the State don't want to take risk selling power during summer which is termed as peak season when demand increases and supply decreases due to various reasons. This is the first time power surplus Chhattisgarh will be selling electricity to any state for such a long period.
