Amit Shah calls for saffron surge in south HYDERABAD: BJP chief Amit Shah dropped enough hints that his top priority is to expand the party base in Southern states and capture power in the South.
The BJP chief made his intentions clear by indicating that Southern and North-Eastern states are on top of his agenda. Amit Shah said he wanted these two regions to contribute more for the formation of the BJP government at the Centre in 2019.
Amit Shah, who came to Hyderabad on Thursday on a two-day visit, said while addressing party workers that the present government was formed mainly with the contribution of Northern, Western and Eastern states. But Southern and North-Eastern states played a very minimal role in it. Hence, he wanted Southern and North-Eastern regions to contribute more in 2019 polls.
'I have a lot of hopes on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States. I want these two States, especially Telangana, to contribute more for the victory of the party in 2019 polls,' he remarked. To achieve this goal, BJP workers should work very hard and reach out to people.
Stating that he would be frequently visiting Southern States, the BJP boss said the party's Telangana leadership should prepare strategies to strengthen the party and see that the party attracts people through its work.
Expressing concern over the rift between AP and Telangana governments, the BJP chief appealed to chief ministers of both the States to set aside their differences and work together for the development of the respective States.
'AP and Telangana people are brothers. They should maintain cordial relations and work for the development of their respective States.'
Assuring total cooperation from the BJP-led government at the Centre, the BJP chief said the government would see to it that they develop on all fronts.
Blaming the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government for the conflict between AP and Telangana, Shah said the UPA divided AP in a hurry for political gains.
Stating that his party would celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on Sept 17, Shah asked party men to take oath to develop Telangana on that day.
