KCR's remarks trigger protests in Khammam mandals BHADRACHALAM: Tension prevailed for four hours when 2,000 people of Yetapaka, Pichukalapadu and Kannaigudem gram panchayats staged a 'rasta roko' at Yetapaka village centre in protest against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's remark that the issue of transfer of seven submergence-prone mandals of Khammam district to the Residuary AP state was a closed chapter now as the central government had already transferred them to AP.
Angered by KCR's remark, the protestors first raised slogans against him and staged a dharna. Then they resorted to a 'rasta roko'. All political parties supported their agitation.
ZPTC members of Bhadrachalam and Dummagudem mandals G Ravi Kumar and A Satyalu respectively alleged that KCR, who had just two days back assured the people of these mandals that he would fight against the transfer of the seven mandals to AP, had given a big shock to the people by the sudden change of his stand on the issue.
The protestors also demanded that the central government should undo the transfer of the seven mandals of Khammam district to AP and ensure that these mandals remained in Telangana. They called off their four-hour-long 'rasta roko' after an assurance from Bhadrachalam RDO K Anjaiah that their demand(s) would be conveyed to KCR.
The 'rasta roko' led to a massive traffic halt on the Bhadrachalam main road leading to Chattishgarh and Wazeedu. It also caused inconvenience to the pilgrims bound for Parnasala.
