Cong fields candidate for Nandigama by-poll VIJAYAWADA: All the efforts made by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to make Nandigama byelection unanimous have fallen flat. In spite of repeated requests and efforts by TDP Krishna district leaders, the Congress has announced B Babu Rao as its candidate for Nandigama bypolls. PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy is visiting Nandigama to oversee the nomination filing.
'After coming to power, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has cheated people with regard to farm loan waiver. Also, he did not bother writing a letter requesting the PCC president to make Nandigama byelection unanimous.
We would take Nandigama bypolls as an opportunity to highlight the false promises of Chandrababu,' said PCC secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji.
Meanwhile, Assembly deputy speaker Mandali Budda Prasad met YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and pleaded with him not to field a candidate in the Nandigama byelection since Tangirala Soumya, daughter of former MLA Tangirala Prabhakara Rao who died within a few weeks of getting elected to the Assembly, is contesting from the TDP.
It is learnt that Jagan had assured him that he would think over the proposal of the ruling party and continue the tradition of not fielding candidates if the contestant is the family member of a deceased leader.
But, with the Congress announcing its candidate, the YSRC leadership is also thinking of contesting the bypolls in Nandigama. 'We thought of not fielding a candidate on humanitarian grounds. But then, when the Congress is contesting the byelections, there are chances of our votes getting diverted to the Congress party.
Moreover, we are gearing up for the fight as more number of attacks on the YSRC activists are being made in Nandigama constituency only,' opined a senior YSRC leader.
