Naidu tight-lipped on Capital question HYDERABAD: A majority of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Cabinet colleagues have made it clear that Vijayawada-Guntur region is ideally located to be the new State capital, no matter what the Sivaramakrishnan Committee recommends.
Reports from Delhi that the panel recommended Donakonda had a disquieting influence on the ministers since on more than one occasion, the Chief Minister himself had indicated his preference for Vijayawada-Guntur region.
Ministers argued in favour of Vijayawada-Guntur and asserted that the State government would take a final call on the matter. With his colleagues going to town with their views, a cautious Naidu summoned them to his chambers and warned them not to speak as they like since the government was yet to receive a copy of the panel report.
According to reliable sources, the Sivaramakrishnan Committee has submitted Part-I and II of its report to the Union Home Ministry, which is likely to upload the same on its website in a day or two.
While leaving the Assembly, Naidu, when asked about the panel report, shot back: 'Have you seen the report? If you have, please show it to me. You have published speculative reports and now, you want my opinion!' Urging patience, he said, 'Let the report come and let us study it.'
Earlier, Municipal Minister P Narayana said the capital question would be discussed with all the stakeholders and political parties. The issue would be first discussed at the State Cabinet meeting on Sept 1. The capital advisory committee headed by him will go on a study tour to Naya Raipur, Navi Mumbai, Gandhinagar and Bhubaneswar after Sept 10.
Agriculture Minister Prattipati Pulla Rao reminded that Naidu had already indicated that the capital would come up near Vijayawada- Guntur.
