Incessant rain drenches Hyderabad HYDERABAD: Moderate to heavy rains in spells lashed different parts of Hyderabad bringing down the temperatures in the city, which were on the rise in the last few days.
Since Wednesday evening, the city was experiencing drizzle to rather heavy rains in intermittent spells and meteorological experts say the rainfall on Thursday evening in the city could be around 5 to 6 cm at some places. The situation is likely to continue for another couple of days.
People doing festival shopping for Ganesh Chaturthi were subjected to inconvenience and the vendors selling 'patri', idols and paraphernalia suffered losses with rains affecting their sales and drenching some of their products.
Heavy rains were also reported in Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy and Medak districts in Telangana and Kurnool and parts of Anantapur and Kadapa districts of Andhra Pradesh. Moderate to heavy rains were also experienced in parts of north coastal Andhra districts and delta regions in Krishna and Guntur.
With heavy rains lashing parts of Ranga Reddy, streams and rivulets were in spate and near Parigi, a tractor was washed away in the stream while crossing. However, the driver and other person travelling on it managed to swim to safety. Heavy rains disrupted normal life in Mahbubnagar and Kurnool districts.
Vehicular transport was disrupted with flood waters overflowing on the roads at Mahbubnagar, Kodamur, Narayanpet, Shandnagar in Mahbubnagar district, Adoni, Kurnool and some other places in Kurnool district.
Heavy rains lashed Viskhapatnam city in brief spells, which saw drainage overflowing on the roads, causing inconvenience to the vehicular users.
According to K Seetharam, incharge director of Meteorological Department in Hyderabad, under the influence of low pressure area formed in Bay of Bengal near north coastal Andhra and south Odisha that has intensified in last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains are forecast from Srikakulam to Guntur and almost all parts of Telangana State. The situation is likely to continue for another 48 hours.
Following heavy rains in the catchment areas of Nizam Sagar in Nizmabad district, Peddavagu in Khammam district, heavy inflows were recorded in those two projects and water was released downstream into Godavari river. In Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal, the moderate rainfall came as a blessing for the farmers engaged in agriculture.
