Hevay rains in AP, TS: Reservoirs brimming with water HYDERABAD: All major reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are brimming with water. With heavy to very heavy rains expected in the next two days, the reservoirs in the two states are set to receive more inflows.
The good news is that heavy inflows in the last few days have helped authorities generate hydro power and as a result, the gap between power supply and demand has come down drastically. Project-wise water level positions are as follows:
Srisailam
With heavy rains upstream, water level at the Srisailam reservoir has almost reached its full capacity level. On Sunday, the inflow stood at 1,44,328 cusecs while the outflow was 77,982 cusecs. While the full reservoir level (FRL) is 885 ft, the water level on Sunday touched 883.7 ft.
However, officials did not release water to Nagarjuna Sagar. The reason was the inflow, which till late Saturday was 2.4 lakh cusecs, came down to 1.44 lakh cusecs on Sunday. As against the total storage capacity of 215 tmc, Srisailam now has 209 tmc.
However, 7,967 cusecs of water from Pothireddy head regulator was released and another 700 cusecs was released for the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti. Due to power generation at Srisailam Left and Right canals, around 77,860 cusecs was released down stream.
Nagarjuna Sagar
As the officials did not lift the gates of Srisailam completely, the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) was receiving less inflow, of about 64,742 cusecs, and the outflow was 11,221 cusecs. As against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 590 ft, the current level stood at 551 ft.
Taliperu
Taliperu project in Khammam district too received heavy inflows. The officials released 90,000 cusecs to Godavari. All the 18 gates of the project were lifted. Taliperu is a medium irrigation project across river Taliperu, a major tributary of river Godavari, near Peddamidisileru village in Charla mandal.
Dowleswaram
With floods in the upstream areas and heavy inflows to tributaries of Godavari, water level at the Dowleswaram Barrage in Rajahmundry is steadily rising. The water level reached 33 ft and the first warning will be issued when it touches 44 ft.
Jurala
Jurala project is full with water. The inflow was recorded at 1.4 lakh cusecs. Officials released 1.1 lakh cusecs to the Srisailam project. As against the full reservoir level of 318.45 metres, the present water level is 318.4 metres. Six power units each with a capacity of 39 MW are generating 34 MW each. The total power generation was 204 MW on Sunday.
The heavy inflows in the last few days have helped officials generate hydro power and as a result the gap between power supply and demand has drastically come down.
