Naidu gears up to walk the talk


 
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who completed 100 days in office, has devoted most of his time thus far to identify and set goals ' whether it is zeroing in on Vijayawada as capital, searching for ways and means of implementing his crop loan waiver promise or chalking out plans to attract industries. Here is his progress card at a glance.

Rs 1.1 lakh crore

is what Naidu wants from the Centre for the development of the State capital near Vijayawada. The Chief Minister has told the 14th Finance Commission that the initial estimate for the same is Rs 4 lakh crore and urged it to recommend to the Centre to chip in with Rs 1.1 lakh crore.

Rs 12,000 crore

outstanding debt the State owes to the Centre. Naidu wants the Narendra Modi government to waive it. He has urged the Finance Commission to write off the debt besides granting special category status to the State and announcing a special package for the development of the backward Rayalaseema and North Andhra.

Smart and Mega Cities

Naidu has drawn up plans to develop 13 towns besides Vijayawada as smart cities; he is also keen on developing three mega cities in the State

The More The Better

132 major and medium industries with an investment of Rs 782 crore in the offing 12 major industries with an investment of Rs 12,380 crore awaited 200 more industries with employment potential of 10,000 jobs in the pipeline

Mega Aqua food Park at Bhimavaram; estimated investment Rs 300 crore; Mega Weaver clusters in Prakasam and Guntur districts on the anvil

Sky is The Limit

Naidu has envisioned three international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhaptanam and Tirupati; an airport in each district, metro rail projects each in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupti.

Farm Loan Waiver

The day he was sworn in, Naidu announced a committee headed by former chairman of NABARD P Kotaiah. On Aug 14, the government issued orders that all loans taken up to March 31, 2014 - up to Rs 1.5 lakh per family - would be waived.

Rural Focus Pedarikam Pai Gelupu

Intended to empower women and make them financially self-reliant. To ensure at least one self-help group member from each home. Sand quarrying in 91 reaches to be allotted to self-help groups

Badi Pilustondi

The government wants children between the age group of six to 14 to be in schools, not in the fields. Merit students to be given Pratibha Awards, video conference in schools to be provided and online attendance recording to be ushered in

Neeru Chettu

Focus on environment. Intended to improve underground water table and optimum utilisation of water available for irrigaiton

Polavaram-2019

Using his clout at the Centre, the Chief Minister has ensured removal of obstacles for construction of the Polavaram Project. The Centre issued an ordinance, transferring seven mandals in Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh. Naidu wants the project to be completed before 2019. He has decided to visit Chhattisgarh and Odisha for talks with his counterparts there for resolving inter-state disputes.

5 Grids

Gas Grid to ensure LPG through pipes to kitchens Water Grid to supply drinking water to all households Fibre Optic Grid to ensure internet connectivity to all Power Grid to help ease power shortage and provide supply to all villages and all sectors Road Grid to ensure road connectivity to all villages

Skill Development

Setting up a Skill Development Mission to help the state emerge as no 1 in skill development. Prof Ganta Subba Rao appointed chairman for the mission. It would be set up at the GAIL building in Nagaram, East Godavari district

Silicon Corridor

AP to be upgraded into a Silicon Corridor by ensuring Rs 12,000 crore IT exports (now it is practically nil); investment of Rs 30,000 crore in electronics and manufacturing sectors envisaged

IT Revolution

Every home to have broadband connectivity

IT literate in each family

AP to be knowledge-based society at international level

Leverage on IT to provide efficient administration, provide employment

IT to increase productivity in agriculture and allied fields

Empowered Andhra

4,000 MW super thermal power plant in Visakhapatnam dist by NTPC in the pipeline; estimated investment Rs 20,000 crore

1,000 MW solar power plants each in Guntur and Anantapur dists

Additional power from Central power generation stations; power purchases from other states

24/7 Power Supply

On the day Naidu took over, the demand-supply gap was 22 million units in AP. It has been brought down to zero, on account of improvement in hydel generation and drop in demand due to the monsoon. Naidu forced the Centre to include AP in the list of states identified for ensuring 24-hour power supply. Efforts are on to provide power supply for nine hours to agriculture sector.
