BJP distorts history to prove its point

Hyderabad, Sept 18 (INN): The Telangana unit of Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be in a mood to distort the history to strengthen its criticism against Telangana Government for non-celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day.

The information released by the BJP on Thursday is full of errors and it appears that their media managers did not do their homework properly. The BJP claimed that "Nizam was a foreign ruler."

A simple Google search on Nizam's lineage could have prevented the BJP from presenting this misinformation. Although the party did not specify among seven Nizams to whom it was referring to as a foreign ruler, all seven Nizams were born and brought up in India.

Mir Qamar-ud-din Khan Siddiqui, the founder of Asaf Jahi Dynasty, was born on August 20, 1671, in Agra (now in Uttar Pradesh) and died on June 1, 1748 in Burhanpur (now in Madhya Pradesh).

The last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan was born in Purani Haveli in Hyderabad, on April 6, 1886 and died in King Kothi Palace on February 24, 1967. His father and sixth Nizam Mir Mahbub Ali Khan too born at Purani Haveli on August 17, 1866 and died on August 29, 1911, in Falaknuma Palace. While sixth Nizam was buried at Mecca Masjid, Mir Osman Ali Khan was buried in the premises of Masjid-e-Judi in King Kothi.

The BJP also claimed that the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was founded by Qasim Razvi. But the fact is, he was elected as the MIM President, almost 19 years after its formation.

Some clerics and intellectuals had floated Majlis-e-Bainul-Muslimeen and held its first executive committee meeting on 12th November 1927. The meeting was convened by Moulvi Mohammad Mahmood Nawaz Khan and presided by Moulvi Haji Fatehullah. On 15th March 1929, Majlis declared its constitution.

In 1940, Nawab Bahadur Yar Jung, was elected as the Majlis President. After his death in 1944, Abdul Hasan Syed Ali became Majlis president and he was succeded by Mazhar Ali Kamil. Two years later, in 1946 Qazim Razvi was elected as the President.

The BJP made another error in mentioning the date of MIM's revival. It claimed that MIM resurfaced in 1964. However, the MIM was revived in 1957 immediately after the release of Qasim Razvi from the Pune Jail.

Senior lawyer Abdul Wahed Owaisi was elected as the president of the party. The MIM then entered into electoral politics and also won the municipal elections of Hyderabad in 1962.
