Police conduct raids on gambling, matka dens across TS Hyderabad, Sept 18 (INN): In a major drive and all out campaign against illegal gambling activities in the state, the Telangana Police on Thursday conducted raids on notorious and illegal Matka and gambling dens in 19 locations, arrested 152 persons and seized Rs.4.80 lakhs.
In a teleconference with all Superintendents of Police of all 10 Telangana districts yesterday, DGP Anurag Sharma urged them to strictly observe peace and maintain law and order down to the villages level and ensure vigilant and stringent action against all illegal activities like the gambling and Matka dens in their areas.
He directed all the Superintendents of Police to immediately cancel permissions to gambling dens, if any which were operating illegal activities like the Matka etc.,
The DGP said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was very particular that such illegal activities, which were a scourge on the livelihood of poor, should not be allowed to flourish in the state and should be put down with a heavy hand.
He also cautioned all SHOs and District police officials of stringent disciplinary action against them in the event of any complaint and report of such activities occurring in their jurisdiction.
