All set for Bathukamma grand finale HYDERABAD: After declaring Bathuakamma a state festival, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken special interest in ensuring that it is held in a such way that it would remain in memory of people for a very long time since it is being celebrated for the first time in Telangana state.
The chief minister who reviewed the preparations with chief secretary Rajiv Sharma and advisor to government on culture KV Ramanachary, wanted to ensure that there would be no dislocation anywhere in the city when the festival begins.
Apart from KCR, governor ESL Narasimhan will take part in the celebrations on Tank Bund. Bathuakammas will be arranged with flowers at LB Stadium and would be taken to the Tank Bund in a procession at about 4 p.m. Women from all the 10 districts in the state will take part in the festival.
Preparation of Bathukammas will begin from 8 a.m. at LB stadium and officials have already procured the necessary flowers. About 25,000 women would make Bathukammas and take them out in a procession to the Tank Bund.
The government is also fixing tableaux depicting Telangana culture and heritage. They would also move along with the women to the Tank Bund from LB Stadium.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has constructed five ghats at Rotary Park on Tank Bund to facilitate the release of Bathukammas into Hussainsagar. Instructions have been issued to the police department not to allow vehicular traffic towards Tank Bund.
The entire Hussainsagar would be illuminated lending a festive atmosphere to the event. The police would keep a hawk eye on the festivities with help of CC cameras. This apart special police squads have been formed to keep a tight vigil on mischief-makers.
The chief minister wants Bathukamma should be celebrated on much bigger scale next year. He wanted officials to construct a Bathukamma Square on the Tank Bund.
