Telugu Short Story Golden Jubilee Celebrations held in Houston Houston, Texas: Telugu Short Story in North America completed 50 years, hence these Golden Jubilee Celebrations, declared Vanguri Chitten Raju, founder of the Vanguri Foundation at a memorable two day program held in Houston, Texas on October 25th and 26th.
Andhra Sachitra Vaara Patrika published the first ever Telugu Short Story written in North America in 1964. Puligandla Mallikarjuna Rao from Edmonton, Canada was the writer. That was the beginning of Telugu Literature in North America. Subsequently, Pemmaraju Venugopala Rao became the first Telugu poet and writer in the United States. Late Venugopala Rao also started the first Telugu magazine in the United States.
Vanguri Foundation is relentlessly working for the promotion of Telugu Literature in North America. It has celebrated the Golden Jubilee and 9th American Telugu Literary Summit under the leadership of it's founder Chitten Raju.
Telugu Literary stalwart Dr. Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad made the key note speech and said that this event will be a memorable one forever. Chitten Raju stressed the need for taking the Telugu language to the next level to make it as a Global Language.
Indian Consul General in the United States P. Harish opened the Literary Summit and the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Dalit University Vice Chancellor from Guntur Professor Gujjarlamudi Krupachari spoke elaborately about the thesis made by his student Tanneeru Kalyan Kumar on Telugu Short Story in the United States.
Dr. Muktevi Bharathi, well known poet Dr. Papineni Siva Shankar spoke at length. 94 year old folk singer and Kala Prapurna award recipient Dr. A. Anasuya Devi chaired the program and blessed the event.
Smt. Cherukuri Rama Devi, Dr. Vemuri Venkateswara Rao, Sai Rachakonda, Chilukuri Satyadev, Satyam Mandapati Akella Raghavendra, G. Bhageeratha, Saradhi Motamarri, Kiran Prabha, Vinnakota Ravi Shankar, S. Narayana Swamy, Gorti Brahmanandam, Afsar, Kalpana Rentala, Chandra Kanneganti, Yadavalli Ramana Murthy, Sonthi Sarada Purna, Sri Basabathina spoke in the two day program. Telugu expert Dr. Daniel Negers from France spoke in fluent Telugu.
Unanimous Resolution to Setup Telugu Study Centers all over the World
Chitten Raju made a proposal saying that instead of depending on the governments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Telugu lovers all over the world should work hard to setup Telugu Research and Study Centers in Universities wherever possible. The proposal was unanimously accepted by everyone. It is known that several Universities in the United States already have Telugu programs. Dr. Vemuri Venkateswara Rao is working relentlessly to setup a permanent Telugu Teaching Course at the University of California, Berkeley center.
Sai and Lalita Rachakonda, Chilukuri Satya Dev, Ram Mohan Cheruvu, Sarada Akunuri, Satya Bhama Pappu, Ravi Ponnapalli, Venkatesh and Jyotsna Nutalapati, Raj Pasala, Seetaram Ayyagari, Krishna Keerti, Madhu Pemmaraju, Kalaga Raja Rajeswari, Mala Rao, Sarma Nutalapati and Mani K. Sastry worked relentlessly to make this two day program a memorable event.
