Telangana martyr's widow attempts suicide Hyderabad, Oct 29 (INN): Following non-inclusion of her late husband's name in the list of Telangana martyrs released by the State Government, a woman attempted suicide in Viqarabad of Ranga Reddy district.
This was disclosed by TPCC Vice-President Mohammed Ali Shabbir while addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday. He said the woman, Sabitha, attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Tuesday.
Her husband Pradeep was among the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of Statehood. After the formation of Telangana State, Sabitha was even honoured by the Ranga Reddy District Collector.
However, Pradeep's name did not figure in the list of martyrs which was released by the State Government for payment of Rs 10 lakh financial assistance. She went to the Tehsil office to enquire about the reasons for skipping her husband's name from the list of martyrs. Unable to find an answer, she returned home disappointed and attempted suicide.
Shabbir Ali said that the State Government should order re-verification of martyrs' list and include all those who laid down their lives for the statehood cause. The government should assure the families of martyrs that they would be given promised financial assistance to prevent recurrence of incidents like the one that happened in Viqarabad.
