Capital lands:Farmers to take Govt head on VIJAYAWADA: It appears that a section of farmers from Tulluru mandal in Guntur district have almost decided to take the Andhra Pradesh government head-on as the the latter has made it clear that it would acquire land through the land-pooling system for capital construction.
They have met Bezwada Bar Association (BBA) members in the city seeking assistance in their fight against the government.
'The AP government has decided to give 1000 sq.yards of developed land in return for an acre. But there is no clarity on when it would happen. Also, the government is saying that the land will be acquired within three months. Why so much hurry?' questioned M Sheshagiri Rao, an advocate and farmer from Rayapudi village in Tulluru mandal, who was one of the farmers' group that met BBA members.
While there are mixed opinions from the farmers in the 17 villages of Tulluru and 'The government is trying to forcibly acquire our lands by paying paltry rates. Why is there a need for 30,000 acres for building the capital? The government is trying to do business with our lands,' Chandrashekar, a farmer form Malkapuram village said.
Even a small group of farmers who are ready to give their lands to the government want clarity on on the modalities to be followed. 'To discuss the future course of action and highlight the fears of farmers, we have decided to organise a round table by inviting officials and public representatives in Vijayawada on Nov 8 and 9,' said BBA president Sampara Durga Srinivasa Rao.
