YSRC, TDP workers clash at Nandyal KURNOOL: YSRC and TDP workers came to blows resulting in injuries to some at the Nandyal Municipal Council meeting on Friday. YSRC activists attacked TDP councillors including vice chairperson in the presence of their MLA Bhuma Nagireddy.
Five persons including vice-chairman were injured and furniture and equipment were damaged. TDP called a Nandyal bandh on Saturday to protest against the YSRC members' high-handedness.
The council meeting began with chiarperson D Sulochana (TDP) in the chair. The council discussed several issues on the agenda. Meanwhile, the chairperson suspended one of the YSRC councilors Siva Sankar after he created ruckus in the house.
Nandyal MLA and YSRCP central committee member Bhuma Nagireddy, on learning about the suspension of their member, stormed into the council hall. He tried to raise some points but the chairperson rang the bell telling him that the meeting was over.
All TDP councillors stood up and were about to leave when Nagireddy, who became furious asked his loyalists to close the doors.
The TDP councillors argued with them and tried to go out forcibly. Meanwhile a stampede like situation prevailed with heated arguments and at the same time the YSRC men attacked one of the TDP councillors B Venkata Subbaiah with a mike stem and later they went to chairperson's chamber and damaged furniture and glass panes of the doors. Meanwhile police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The YSRC also attacked municipal vice- chairman G Vijaya Kumar with sticks at Nandi Samakhya area while he was going to visit the hospital where the injured councillor was undergoing treatment. He was shifted to a hospital immediately.
Protesting the violence, TDP activists staged a dharna in-front of municipal office led by former minister NMD Farooq against the YSRC's 'hooliganism.'. The party activist also protested in the district headquarters in the evening and called for Nandyal town bandh on Saturday.
