SLBC project works to be completed earlier: KCR HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to ask the agency, Jai Prakash Associates, to whom the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnelling work was allotted to take up the work at the earliest.
According to sources, the chief minister has softened his stance and decided to ask the company to finish the project because if the government cancels the contract the company might approach the court and the project would be further delayed.
The chief minister convened a high-level meeting of all floor leaders, ministers, irrigation officials and public representatives of Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts to decide the fate of SLBC project.
'I want the project to be completed at the earliest. Whoever can do this, I am ready to handover the project to them,'' KCR reportedly told the meeting.
Since Jai Prakash Associates have been given the project, the chief minister wants to ask them whether they are ready to complete the project if not the government would look for an alternative, sources added.
All the members agreed with Rao and suggested that the government invite the company for talks. Interestingly, all the members asked the government to pay the pending dues to the company and start the work at the earliest.
The SLBC project was planned 30 years ago, and took 14 years to issue orders for taking up the project. The project will take two years to complete the pending 25-km tunnelling work. In 2014-15 an amount of `325 crore was sanctioned for the project.
