TDP, BJP to put up a combined fight for GHMC Polls HYDERABAD: The TDP and BJP have almost decided to continue their 'friendship' even in the ensuing elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other civic body polls, which will be held in Telangana next year.
A decision to this effect was reportedly taken by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya when the latter had called on the TDP boss here on Sunday.
Dattatreya, who is also BJP's vice-president, during his interaction with Naidu is learnt to have discussed with the latter about the current political scenario in AP as well as TS.
Emerging from the meeting, the Union Minister said he and Naidu had taken stock of the political happenings in both the sibling states.
He, however, tried to play down the significance of their meeting, saying, 'My meeting with the TDP chief is a courtesy call. I have discussed issues concerning Labour Department with him'. The Union Minister was accompanied by BJP floor leader in the Telangana Assembly K Lakshman.
Interestingly, soon after the meeting, Telangana TDP senior E Dayakar Rao said both the parties had decided to work together in the ensuing polls to GHMC and local body elections.
'We have come to an understanding on working together in these elections. We (TDP leaders) and BJP Telangana unit boss G Kishan Reddy will soon discuss and finalise the deal,' he added.
The Congress will go alone in the GHMC elections. The Congress entered into an alliance with the MIM during the last GHMC elections and shared the Mayor seat with it. Even though the MIM broke its alliance when N Kiran Kumar was the CM, the MIM retained the Mayor post. AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh, who was in the city, said they would go alone in the GHMC elections.
