Metro Rail will change Hyderabad's landscape HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy said the Metro Rail project is being used as an opportunity to redesign Hyderabad as a people-friendly and eco-friendly global city.
Making a presentation on the challenges of rapid urbanisation in India in general and traffic and transportation issues of Hyderabad in particular as part of a one-year cooperation programme between Hyderabad and French city of Bordeaux at a workshop on 'Mobility and metropolitan strategies' here on Monday, Reddy explained the complexities of traffic management in Indian cities.
Incorporation of inter-modal connectivity between Metro, main rail, bus systems, feeder buses and other road traffic, establishment of bicycle stations and other non-polluting non-motorised transport at Metro stations, building of skywalks and other pedestrian facilities were highlighted.
With implementation of an integrated Metro Rail project and emphasis on densification of the main transportation corridors through transit-oriented development (TOD), development of walkable neighbourhoods and other innovative latest urban planning practices, he stated that Hyderabad would be made a better liveable and globally competitive city.
Making a detailed presentation on the industrial policy of Telangana government, Industries Commissioner Jayesh Ranjan said the industry-friendly new industrial policy of Telangana would attract huge investments from across the globe.
He mentioned that emphasis is being laid on better mobility for new industrial corridors that are being developed for IT, biotechnology, defence and aerospace sectors in Hyderabad. He said Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) is being developed all along the growth corridors of ORR.
