Unhappy film workers plan to go on strike Employees of the Telugu film industry have decided to go on strike, after a fallout with the Producers' Council over working conditions. The employees have been demanding two clauses -- that the present rules and regulations and wages must not apply to small films and that producers must employ workers only from the union.
'As producers, we would like to hire talent from wherever it is available. They are forcing us to employ workers only from the union, which is unfair,' exclaimed T Prasanna Kumar, general secretary of the Producers' Council.
'Moreover, recently 550 dancers had requested to join the union. However, they are demanding them to pay `5 lakh to become a member. Other regular workers like cleaners were being asked to pay `1.5 lakh,' Prasanna added.
'We initially told them we could pay only a certain amount since the industry was facing a crisis. However, in the end we eventually agreed to their demands. Moreover, they had initially agreed to these demands but now have taken a dramatic U-turn,' Prasanna alleged.
