Lakhs of Devotees take bath in Panchami Theertham Tiruchanur: The serene waters of the Padmasarovaram-the temple tank in the abode of Goddess Padmavati, at Tiruchanoor turned into a sea of humanity on Thursday with lakhs of pilgrims hailing from across the country having holy bath on the occasion of Panchami Theertham.
With this grand sacred bath ceremony the nine day annual Kartheeka Brahmotsavams of Goddess Padmavathi Devi, the presiding deity of Tiruchanoor came to an end.
The religious occasion of Panchami Theertham marks the auspicious birth day and celebration of the manifestation of Padmavati Devi in a Golden Lotus in Padma Sarovaram on Sukla Panchami of Kartheeka month.
Snapana Tirumanjanam to Sudarshana Chakrattalwar and the processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi has been performed in a colourful manner. The Goddess who was draped in a half white silk saree with gold colour zari and embossed work, appeared graceful on her Birth Day in the asterism of Uttarashada on which Panchami Teertham is conducted every year, coinciding the advent of star. She was decorated with the special ornament made of large size emeralds that was brought from Tirumala shrine as a 'Birth Day Gift' from her love Lord Venkateswara which stood as a special attraction. After the end of the hour-long ritual, Sudarshana Chakram was taken into Padma Pushkarini for a holy dip.
Governor of Andhra Pradesh ESL Narasimhan, TTD EO MG Gopal, JEOs KS Sreenivasa Raju and P Bhaskar, former TTD Chairman K Bapiraju and other officials, dignitaries were also present. After the completion of the annual karthika brahmotsavams, the AP Governor ESL Narasimhan and TTD EO MG Gopal complimented the joint efforts of various departments of TTD in executing the event in an efficient way. The EO also thanked the local public representatives, pilgrims for their co-operation towards the smooth conduct of the festival.
