Rs 100 Cr to modernise police force: AP DGP Hyderabad, Nov 28 (INN): Director General of Andhra Pradesh Police JV Ramudu on Friday said that the State Government has granted Rs.100 crore for modernization of infrastructure of the police department.
This has been done in view of enhanced functions of AP Police in the new environment in 13 districts of the State after bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh. Rs 100 Crore for purchase of vehicles was earmarked in Andhra Pradesh State Budget itself in the month of August this year, said the DGP.
'The focus of the Police Department haS diversified particularly in addressing issues like Law & Order, Traffic, Crime Management, Narcotics, Anti-Extremist, Red Sanders smugglers and also Anti-Interstate Crime Operations, he said.
The Government has given approvals for purchase of 2422 vehicles including 1314 LMV's of all categories. 21 HMV's, 1000 Motor Cycles, etc., which will be allotted among all Key Police Establishments in the 13 Districts with focus on the assignments like Anti-Extremists, Anti-Red Sanders smuggling etc. The Police Department also has the added responsibility of managing the 970 km coast line with its own Marine Policing Units.
The move to modernize the Motor Transport of AP Police Department is part of an on-going exercise to revamp the infrastructure to meet the demands against tackling crime, law & order, Women Safety and VIP security in the diversified geographical locations of the new state like ghat areas of coastal Andhra and plain rocky areas of Rayalaseema, the DGP said.
