AP to re-open liquor scam probe to corner Botsa HYDERABAD: After cornering YSRC chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy by raking up the allotment of lands to Vanpic project, Lepakshi Knowledge Hub Pvt Ltd and Kineta Power Ltd, the Andhra Pradesh government is now trying to give jitters to former minister and ex-APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana by planning to re-investigate the liquor scam.
The government is contemplating to reopen the liquor scam that surfaced in 2012 in which several ministers in the erstwhile N Kiran Kumar Reddy's cabinet had faced allegations.
The cabinet sub-committee, set up to review the controversial decisions taken by the previous Congress governments, during its meeting held here on Tuesday, decided to look into the liquor scam in which Satyanarayana had faced allegations.
'Our panel has asked the ACB and excise department to examine the possibility of reopening the liquor scam. The two departments have been asked to submit a report to the committee before the next meeting,' IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, who is a member of the sub-committee, told reporters here.
'Several politicians and their kin from both AP and Telangana were charged in the liquor syndicates' case by ACB sleuths. There is scope for re-investigation of this scam. We would probe all the angles and see that all the guilty are punished,' he said. Other issues that were discussed during meeting were Vanpic project and Lepakshi Knowledge Hub Pvt Ltd.
'We have recommended to the cabinet to cancel land allotments to the promoters of these projects in Prakasam and Anantapur districts respectively,' Reddy said.
He said the government was in favour of amending the law, governing the illegal cutting and sale of red sanders. Separate courts would be constituted to try the red sanders smugglers. He said the government wants to make illegal cutting of red sanders as non-bailable offence.
